David Mooney is a professional artist well-known for his detailed, realistic acrylic paintings. His emphasis is on the spiritual, whether he is painting the cathedrals of England or the cathedral peaks of the Rocky Mountains. He is a popular teacher and lecturer and his paintings have won extensive awards. David sells his artwork, prints, and greeting cards at several shows a year, and he is a member of ArtWorks Gallery in Grass Valley.
David’s evocative paintings currently deal with two groups of subjects. First is American wildlife and landscapes, which he has painted for many years, especially the majestic mountains of the American west. Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado (where he served as Artist-in-Residence) and Yosemite National Park in California are two favorite locations.
More recently he has become inspired by the beauty and history of England and Scotland. Towering cathedrals, haunting abbey ruins, mighty castles, even humble cottages, are all fodder for his artistic expression.
What runs through all David’s paintings and prints is a vision of a world untouched and unspoilt by human problems. There is an atmosphere not of aloneness, but of pleasant solitude where the viewer may commune with God or nature, without intrusion or interruption.
David gives painting lessons and workshops in his Grass Valley studio. He also gives lectures and demonstrations to local arts groups.
